For this project what we did was we all created, with a partner, Greek Tragedies then slowly started narrowing it down to just one play. Then everyone who wanted to act got to mess around reading from the script trying to see where they sounded best or what role they liked. After that a few select who wrote the script went to go and talk about who should have what role and who would be better off with a different role. Then everyone else who was not assigned or didn't want a role got to choose what job they would get, rating them least from greatest. In the end we preformed our plays around 4 times. The first was a dress rehearsal for half the school then the next day we had another dress rehearsal and preformed for the other half of the school. That same night we preformed for the judges. Then the next night we preformed for the parents and found out which play won what, and which groups won what.
The play that got chosen for my class was Don't Mean A Thing. It was originally written by Mannix Cepeda, Cesar Villalobos, and Clarisa Marin. Then once it was chosen Mannix Cepeda, Emma Romabiles, Carmen Thumm, Lucy Bollinger, and Kenneth Arnold went through and edited the script. The theme of our play was kind of about the bond of brothers. Our play was about two brothers, Sam and Paul, who go to Vietnam with the marines. Sam is a bit mentally challenged and Paul goes to protect Sam. In the end Paul goes off leaving Sam behind. Sam ends up dying due to a bombing.
My role in all this was advertising I made the poster for our play, I hung it up in the main commons for all the kids to see. I also sent emails to people about the play. My Job was mostly just promoting and advertising our plays making sure everyone knows about it. And sort of gets and idea of what it is about.
This play project really taught me a lot. It helped me with my writing, it helped me be a little more creative and it really helped me improve on my people skills. This project also got me to really step up my game, the fact that we had to get it done a certain day or have at least someone look at it. It all really helps for the long run.
