My internship is at a ceramics place in Ocean Beach. So far my mentor, Caroline, taught us how to glaze ceramics which is really simple and a little messy (but it is pottery after all so it should have been expected), the glazing is what gives it the glossy finish that is like a little layer of glass. It's really cool because the spray is a certain color, for example the one I used yesterday was green, so that you can see that you covered every inch of the surface, but after you put it in the kiln it comes out clear as day. Also the kiln has to be 2000 degrees so that it can heat the clay. It's really cool but really scary. My site has a shelf of ceramics you can pick and the price is on the bottom, it includes any paints you might use and all the kiln and glazing is done for you as well. Not only does she offer ceramics but she offers henna, canvas painting, mosaic, a lot of cool things. Also my mentor is really funny and not intimidating at all so Im all excitement and no nerves.
